Bodies of Power, Nations of Strength is an interdisciplinary research and training centre
forged in collaboration with Indigenous partners from across Canada. Our goal is to facilitate
both research and training opportunities that strengthen Indigenous science, technology,
leadership, and governance in kinesiology and physical education.
Our team consists of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous scientists and practitioners from across Canada with specific expertise in coaching, nutrition, fitness and exercise training, bioethics, and health &
Bodies of Power, Nations of Strength is driven by the belief that Indigenous peoples can leverage innovative sport sciences and novel technologies in ways that strengthen their governance and that facilitate their community goals. Our framework asserts Indigenous Peoples as creators and users of science and technology, not as subjects of research. Co-engaging with kinesiology & physical education by centering Indigenous governance guides our research and training projects and grounds them firmly within the framework of Indigenous Science, Technology,
& Society (Indigenous STS).
